Another Phone That Doesn't Work?Aug 07, 2007
By aratshin I don't get it. First I bought the AT&T 992, regardless of the bad reviews, because I've always liked the sound and feel of AT&T phones. Unfortunately, right out of the box, that phone didn't work. (You can read my review entitled: Great If You Don't Need The Number 9!) I returned it, thinking I might just get another one, but decided to try this RCA instead.
I like the features and the design of this phone, and setup was quick and simple. So, what's the problem? No one can hear me. That's right, the handset doesn't work . . . nothing, not a peep. I tried plugging in an old handset and that worked but was incredibly distorted. I then discovered that, if I yell really loudly, you can sort of hear my distored voice through the RCA handset. I tried changing cables but it just doesn't work.
The handset is much lighter and flimsier than the AT&T but, on the AT&T the number 9 didn't work. Why is it so hard to get a little quality control?
I haven't decided if I'm going to give RCA or AT&T another chance. I want a corded, 2-line, phone with Caller ID and no answering machine. I want individual volume controls for both lines and, I don't think it's too much to ask, I want to be able to speak on the phone AND use the number 9.

The BEST phone for buisness - Premium Features!!! :)Aug 13, 2009

RE: RCA ViSYS 2 line phone. Model: 25204RE1
I was very shocked to read all these negative reviews when I popped onto Amazon to buy another one of these. I think this is the ultimate phone for business use, hands down. I've been using it relentlessly, 7 days a week, for over 2 years and the performance is unequaled. I make outgoing phone calls for a living and it is not unusual for me to make 300-500 calls a day. Obviously, I need a high performance phone. I'm very picky about equipment, so when I needed a new business phone, I literally bought every desk phone they had at Best Buy, Walmart, and Office Depot (up to $200.00 each), and brought them all home for side-by-side testing. None could compare to this phone. Not only were the buttons more easy to press (and therefore faster to dial), but the tone and clarity are great and if that were not enough, the built-in equalizer can be a life-saver when a customer on the other end is difficult to understand. I disagree with the buttons being poorly placed. Having the headset, speaker, mute, and equalizer in larger buttons that stand out makes perfect sense to me, as these are the ones you will use when you are actually ON a call and need them fast. The redial you can hit in your leisure. Since others have complained about it, I will tell you that the redial button is the topmost button on the right, so it's easy to hit once you learn the location, whether the text is tiny or not. I do agree that the speaker phone leaves a bit to be desired. The quality on that is not very good, but this is a problem on most phones, so I can overlook that. This was the ONLY business phone that let me customize things like the loudness of the keytones in my ear while dialing (super important for a high-volume caller) and the tone quality of the incoming voice (equalizer). When you reach someone who is difficult to understand because of sound quality, you can adjust (live, on the fly) the bass, treble, and richness of their voice to make it easier to understand. I love this feature, and this seems to be the only phone that has it. This is also one of the few phones I've found that works flawlessly with Magic-Jack for both incoming and outgoing calls (although I usually use it with a land line). Unlike some others, I have not had any problem with interference from my cell phone, which sits on my desk. I make such a large volume of calls that I have worn 3 of the number keys down past the numbers, but I could always paint the numbers back on, if I needed them. The fact that I can wear the number pads down before I wear out the phone is a real testament to how dependable this phone is. I did have to return the first of these phones I bought (couldn't adjust the keytone volume) but the one I exchanged it for works perfectly and has been working perfectly for 2 years now. Based on that and the other reviews, I guess some of these phones are defective when you buy them, but based on my experience with this phone - especially compared to other phones I've used - I will buy it again even if I have to go through several of them to find one in perfect working order. To me, it's worth it. I seriously don't know of any other phone on the market that can perform as well as this one does and or that offers as many premium features critical to a high-volume caller, like me. This desktop business phone gets my highest marks!

Nice phone, crippled by interference from cell phonesJan 01, 2008
By J. Robertson As others have reported, this SEEMS like a nice phone. However, it's crippled by interference from some (but not all) cell phones. My ATT Wireless GSM Windows Mobile phone will erase the RCA corded phone's memory, cycle the ringers to "off", reset the date/clock to "O", etc., if the cell phone rings while in the vicinity of the corded phone. Makes me an unhappy camper after I've labored 20-30 minutes programming the corded phone's directory and speed dial buttons. Curiously, the results of this interference are inconsistent. The date/time registers seem to be the most fragile.
My wife's Verizon CDMA phone doesn't seem to cause such problems with it. Another reviewer suggested BlueTooth might be the culprit, but both cell phones I tested had BlueTooth active, so I assume it's related to the frequencies of the ATT vs. Verizon networks or the nature of their transmissions.
There really seems to be a need for a reliable high-quality 2-line corded phone not met by any of the current market offerings!

DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE!Apr 04, 2008
By E. Behrenfeld This phone looks good but does not work at all. I have returned 2 of these phones, and the 3rd one they sent to me doesn't work either! The handset buzzes when you talk into it, the time and date randomly stop working, now I can't dial out. I give up! I am looking for a new phone. After returning 2 of them I have no more time to invest returning the 3rd one and will throw this piece of junk in the garbage! I have avoided RCA products because of past trouble with their TV's, and this phone confirms me NEVER purchasing another RCA product again! DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE!

Nice, but not as good as my old CiscoAug 06, 2007
By Y. Ding I previously had a Cisco VOIP phone, so I'm used to high standards. Unfortunately, I'm back to regular phones now that I've gone to Vonage. This one could be better.
Nice things: * Blue backlit display * Headset compatible (2.5mm) * Speakerphone * Mute button * Full duplex
Quirky things: * Have to hang-up receiver to use headset. I am used to toggling back and forth on the Cisco, but have to put down receiver to go back to headset. * Mute buttons make a beep on the call. I hope the other end doesn't hear it, but buttons shouldn't make any noise on a call. I disabled all key beeps. * Buttons could be nicer. I like a keyboard-like softness. This one is stiffer. * Voicemail button doesn't blink. I'm on Vonage. It could be a setting. * Battery compartment needs a screwdriver to open.
I also thought about the AT&T 992, but the reviews for that one are terrible.
