Close, but no cigarDec 08, 2010
By jktmagic This review concerns the lack of usefulness of the remote handset that is paired up with the desk phone. This RCA 4-line desk phone base station RCA 25423RE1 ViSys 4-Line Expandable System Phone with Intercom looks nice & works well- this one has speakerphone and intercom but doesn't come with caller id or answering machine ( those features are available for a higher price). I like it. But it doesn't come with a headset option, like the 2-line version and the remote handset that is paired with the 4-line desk phone has serious limitations (see next paragraph for details).
What astounds us is the USELESS cordless phone that you can buy for this system (dect 6.0) model RCA DECT 6.0 Accessory Handset for RCA 4-Line Phones (Model# H5401RE1). The brainless design of this cordless is this: If you transfer or answer a call on the cordless it ties up the desk phone completely so you can't answer a call coming in on any of the 4 lines! Yes it is a 4 line cordless handset but you can't answer another incoming call from the desk phone in fact you can't use the desk phone at all!! So, as a receptionist for example you can't transfer the call to the cordless( lets say it is in another room) AND answer another incoming call on the desk phone, as the desk phone is deactivated while the cordless is in use. (WTF!!!) Unfortunately this makes the 4 line version quite useless for us.
We use the 2 line RCA phone (model 25270) at the satellite office which has only 2 incoming lines (this package includes the remote handset and a wireless headset too). We wanted to keep to the same brand for consistency. The 2 line versions of the phone sets do not tie up the desk phone.
Unfortunately we'll have to look to another make for our 4 line office. Oh well. Stupid design (even RCA's help line staff thought it was dumb).

No CALLER ID!Feb 24, 2011
By M I should have looked at all the other reviews as well. It doesn't say it in the description and the picture shows caller id (as does the phone when it arrives) but then it has a sticker that says it doesn't support caller id.

DOES NOT SUPPORT CALLER ID!Jan 28, 2009

Unbelievable that any phone sold today does not support Caller ID - even more unbelievable that the product information listed on Amazon does not mention this anywhere. Only after your receive the phones and discover this 'defect' will you notice the little red note on the upper right-hand corner of the box: "Does not Support Caller ID". Would be nice if the product description had mentioned this.
Needed a 4 line phone for 3 VOIP lines and one Hard lineApr 10, 2012

Pros - 1. it can handle 4 lines, 3 being Cheap VOIP lines and one hard line 2. Cordless extension does stay clear far away from its base. (upstairs and outside) Cons - 1. NO CALLER ID, I didn't know this when I bought it. This was a BIG Disappointment. 2. Wasn't told that the desk-phone was useless when the handset is in use, even for any of the other lines. 3. You have to buy adapters to make two individual phone lines to one combo phone line for lines 1&2 and 3&4, which I found, but after hours of searching on the internet.
Works ok, but a really a bit out of date already.Feb 11, 2012
By E. Thomas We opened a new business and needed a simple 2 or 3 line phone system.
Initially, we were somewhat satisfied with these phones, and used them for our first year of business.
Eventually though, we needed a few more lines, and a more impressive system with menus, hold music, announcements, etc.
Adding just 1 or 2 more land lines was costing us quite a bit more per month, so we started looking at VoIP options.
After much research, we found the 200 Series IP PBX system by voiSip. Wow. Menus, music, queues, etc.
It supports unlimited extensions, which can be corded, cordless, and even remote (great for working from home).
It also supports up to 32 simultaneous calls, right out of the box. Just upgrade your voiSip plan as needed.
The biggest advantage was being able to save a TON of money by using voiSip's multi-line voip plans, instead of land lines.
Call Recording, Call Monitor, Call Whisper and Call Barge are other great features we use a lot.
The 200 Series does cost about 399 bucks, but it gives us a corporate level system at a small business price.
We really we wish we had purchased it in the first place.
Hopefully this review helps someone avoid buying two systems their first year of business like we did.
