Bells a Poppin'Nov 30, 2009

This Wireless alert system works great. I wasn't fond of having to put a rubber hose across my driveway but we live in the woods and a motion activated one would be ringing constantly with all the animals, wind etc. So for the money this was a great option and no false positives. It has worked flawlessly. Very well put together IMO and of excellent quality. The only pain was getting the cover off the alert receiver. Very difficult to do. Only took me about 30 minutes to set up and that was because I wanted the loose ends of the hose buried in the dirt to keep the hose in place. The 9 volt battery I used was a regular Duracell and so far it has held up well for over a month. It has been pretty cold here in Upper, NY. I ordered one of the power lithium batteries to replace the regular battery when it gets really cold.

This is a great unit!!!Oct 24, 2008
By D. Masselink We ordered this to replace a system that had not worked consistently for us. We own a small used car lot, and it's very important to be alerted when a customer drives in.
The Dakota system is easy to hook up; and simply stepping on the hose will trigger the alert. There's no false alerts not can it be triggered by reflected light or small animals. I love the feature that lets us pick the ring tone AND adjust the volume of it. In our case, we added an optional 12v bell wired to our receiver, which rings back in the shop area.
Yes, this is more expensive than the first system we had (a motion-sensing unit) - but it's consistency is more than worth the price!

No more surprise visitors!!Mar 12, 2010
By N. Lunceford This is a very simple system and works great! We put it about 15 ft from the entrance to our driveway and are now notified whenever someone comes down. We are rural and have had a few 'false alarms' from people using our drive to turn around in.. :-( We did find that it did not work when it was buried under the ice and snow during the winter. The narrow hose lies across the driveway and is connected to a small box that you need to mount on a post. When a car drives across, air is forced through the hose to set off the signal. When the line is buried, this cannot happen. You will not want to bury the hose and need to be aware that if it is buried, it does not work. We have really enjoyed having both this item and the mailbox alert (also got on Amazon). Now we KNOW when we are having a visitor or when the mail has actually arrived. Great product!

Works as advertisedAug 31, 2008
By bigbluestem This product has given me great peace of mind. We have a circular driveway at the end of a dead-end road, and often get unwanted traffic, as well as cars "parking" in the middle of the night. Now I always know when somebody drives in. It's also very nice as an announcement of the arrival of expected visitors.

Dakota wireless rubber hose alert just works!Apr 05, 2010
By T. Walker Let me start this review by saying I would have given it 5 stars, but my unit had to be sent back to Dakota Alert after 2 weeks because of a bad radio. The guys at Dakota Alert are great to work with, but I think they should have sent a new unit since mine was nearly brand new. Of course they fixed it at no cost. Anyway, back to the review. I tried the motion driveway alarms, but I kept getting false alerts from dogs, birds, and wind blowing bushes. This alarm never gives false alerts and it always works. I also like being able to choose a different sound for the alarm, since I already have a door bell and an alarm for the front door when someone enters. The installaton took only a few minutes. You have to mount the unit outside and attach the hose and mount the unit inside. I did not want the end of the rubber hose moving when a vehicle ran over it so after installation I dug a small trench and buried the last 10 inches. I installed a nine volt battery in the unit outside and stepped on the hose and the unit inside let me know that everything was working. I am extremely pleased with the Dakota Alert Driveway Alarm.
